Get Rid Of Fleas In Your House

As a pest controller I have seen some really bad flea infestations. Wearing a white disposable suit you can literally see fleas jumping from the carpet or floorboards onto the white material of the suit. Of course if this was my normal clothing or if I was bare legged they would be quickly biting me to get a blood meal.

Many people try the DIY method of flea control first but quickly find that to get on top of it yourself can and often does work out more expensive than getting a company like Briarquest Pest Control to do it right the first time round. 

Blame It On Your Dog Or Cat

More often than not fleas are brought into your home by your pets. But they can also be brought in by humans. My wife does not let me into the house if I have been treating fleas or bedbugs I have to take my clothes off in the garage and put them straight in the washer on a 60 degree wash. Equally I could put them in the tumble dryer on hot or I could put them in a bag in the freezer and freeze them for 12 hours. 

If you do have pets then as soon as you start the battle to get rid of fleas in your house then the first thing to do if treat your pets with veterinary grade treatments. I always buy my pet flea treatments and wormers from a company called Hyperdrug. You could also go to your vet. Please don't use cheap supermarket products they are not up to the job. 

Hyperdrug or your vet can also supply aerosols for fast knockdown of fleas. But they are simply not cost effective to treat a whole house, you would need several cans to do a thorough job. 

Had Enough Of Flea Bites

So I have given you a few hints and tips on how to get rid of fleas. But if you are going to tackle them yourself you really need to be serious about the job. Vacuum everything and when you have done throw the hoover bag out sealed in a bin liner. In fact throw the hoover bag out or empty the cylinder after every vacuuming session.

Another reason for this is that as the insecticide we use is residual you don't want to be vacuuming after treatment as you will reduce the effectiveness of the insecticide. 

I Don't Want To Use Chemicals To Get Rid Of Fleas

Then you need to go into a rigorous program of vacuuming, possibly steam cleaning using something like a Cimex Eradicator steamer and possibly using a natural powder called Diatomaceous Earth. But even using DE you have to ensure you don't breath the dust in if it is airborne. DE works like microscopic razor blades, these cut into the surface of the fleas body and cause it to dehydrate.

At Briarquest Pest Control we have lots of mole trapping experience. Initially I lived on a farm and my garden looked like the battle of the Somme. Literally there were mole hills and patches of dead grass all over. My dogs took to digging for the moles which only made matters worse. 

 

Get Rid Of Moles Fast

Thinking that moles will not live where there is vibration or heavy human traffic is a fallacy. 

Moles will live wherever they want to live and tunnel wherever they want to tunnel. It is this misplaced belief about vibration which has led the innovation in battery powered mole deterrents, or the cheaper version of yogurt pots on canes or seaside windmills.

The only way to get rid of moles is to either gas them or trap them!

Mole Trapping

At Briarquest Pest Control we only use the most powerful commercially available sprung traps when we trap moles. We anticipate that we will resolve a domestic mole problem within 3 visits and guarantee all mole control for a period of 1 month. 

When placing mole traps we ill need to mark the position of the traps with small plastic markers. However if you have pets we may use a sprayed pain marker system. 

Mole control is generally quick and not too disruptive to your garden.

Do You Gas Moles?

Briarquest Pest Control does not currently carryout mole or vertebrate gassing. Quite rightly restrictions on such toxic chemicals are very strict. But for those who do not know how Aluminium Phosphide works. Tiny pellets are dropped into the mole run. The run or hill is covered over or tamped down and the moisture in the soil or air causes the aluminium phosphide pellets to emit a toxic gas. This is lethal to moles but if correct protocols are not followed it is also lethal to humans and other mammals including your pets. Not really something we want to be doing in your garden.!  

 

Why Kill Them, What Harm Are They Doing?

The most pressing issue with mole hills and mole runs is that humans and livestock can fall into the surface runs causing them to lose their footing. This usually results in injury. 

Moles cause thousands of pounds in damage to carefully manicured lawns. Some might say it is only grass but a greenkeeper or lawncare enthusiast their lawn will represent hundred of hours work, expensive turf, seed, fertilizer etc.
